Function:
Its primary function is to maintain proper tension on the main timing chain. The timing chain, which links the crankshaft to the camshafts, must have consistent tension. The 079109218D tensioner ensures that the chain remains tight against the camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft. By doing so, it prevents the chain from developing slack, which could lead to the chain skipping teeth. If the chain skips teeth, it can cause severe engine damage, disrupt the engine's firing order, and result in significant performance issues such as misfires and a drastic reduction in power output.
